Pricing a lane with the Rate browser

What this is

The Rate browser prices a parcel across your carriers before an order exists. Use it to answer what it would cost to send a parcel somewhere. Nothing on this page creates an order, a shipment or a label.

Price a lane

  1. Go to Fulfillment > Rate Browser.
  2. Under Ship from, choose the warehouse. Quotes use that warehouse's address.
  3. Under Ship to, enter the city, the country, the province or state, and the postal or ZIP code. Only the postal or ZIP code is required.
  4. Under Parcel, enter the weight and the length, width and height. The dimensions are optional, but FedEx is not quoted without them. The buttons beside it switch between lb / in and kg / cm.
  5. Click Browse rates.

Read the results

  • The line beginning Priced repeats the destination and the parcel that were quoted. If you change the form afterwards, a warning appears above the results and they are dimmed, because they are for the lane and parcel named in the warning. Click Browse rates to price the form as it reads now.
  • Above it are the actual weight, the dimensional weight and which of the two the carrier is likely to bill on.
  • By carrier groups the quotes under each carrier, cheapest first. Cheapest first puts every quote in one list by price. There is also a Fastest first view. It goes by the delivery day, then by the hour the carrier commits to.
  • Each quote shows the service, the price and, when the carrier gives one, the delivery time.
  • In the By carrier view, a carrier connected to its test environment is marked Test account - not real prices. In the other two views, each of its quotes is marked Test account.
  • A carrier that did not price the lane is listed under Carriers that did not price this lane, with its reason. Click Browse rates to ask again.

Optional details

The Client field is optional. Choose a client to see only the carriers that client is assigned to. If the client is assigned to no carrier, no prices come back and the page says so. If the client is assigned to some of your connected carriers and not others, a line under the results names the ones that were not asked. For a parcel crossing the border you can add a declared value, an HS code and a country of origin. If you leave the declared value blank, a nominal value is assumed.

Good to know

The prices are indicative, pulled at the moment you click. To buy a label, pack the order at the packing station as usual.
