What this is
The end-of-day step every Canadian shipper runs with Canada Post. CanShip builds and transmits the manifest. This article shows you how and when.
How to do it
- At the end of your shipping day, go to Fulfillment > End of Day. The Close Out Day tab opens on today's business date (change the date if you are closing a different day).
- Each carrier with labels shows a card with the number of eligible labels and the total cost, for example "CanadaPost, 2 eligible labels, $29.65". Click Review first if you want to check the labels.
- Click Close on the Canada Post card. A dialog confirms that this transmits the selected shipments to Canada Post and generates the end-of-day manifest PDF. Labels on a manifest cannot be added to another one, though individual labels can still be voided afterwards.
- Click Generate Manifest. CanShip transmits to Canada Post and produces the manifest PDF.
- Hand the printed manifest to the Canada Post driver at pickup. They scan it, and your labels are now in Canada Post's system.
Past manifests are under the History tab.

Why it works that way
Canada Post requires a manifest scan to formally accept your shipments. Without it, your labels exist as PDFs but the parcels are not officially in transit, tracking will not start, and the driver may refuse the pickup.
What can go wrong
- A label is on the day that should not ship yet. Void it under Fulfillment > Shipments before you close out. CanShip only counts eligible (non-voided) labels toward the manifest.
- The close failed with a carrier error. Use Refresh and click Close again. If it keeps failing, confirm your Canada Post credentials in Catalog > Carriers > Canada Post.
- You need a manifest you already closed. Open the History tab to review or reprint it. A label that has been closed onto a manifest cannot be added to another one.
