What this is
How to connect a UniUni account so its rates and services are available when you ship. UniUni is a Canadian last-mile carrier. Connecting it works the same way as any other carrier in CanShip: you bring your own account, and CanShip uses your credentials.
Before you start
You need two values from your UniUni account. They are generated in the UniUni portal, not in CanShip.
- In UniUni, go to Integrations > REST API.
- Stay on the Client API Credentials tab.
- Click Generate New Key. The key appears as a card with its creation date.
- Copy the Token ID, and use the eye icon to reveal the Access Token and the copy icon to take it.
Token ID identifies the key. CanShip stores it so you can tell later which key is in use when you rotate or revoke one. It is not sent with requests.
Access Token is what authenticates the calls. It is sent as a bearer token, so there is no separate login step. Treat it like a password.
The page header shows how many keys you have against the limit, for example API Keys (1/5). Deleting a key revokes it immediately, so do not delete one that a live connection is using.
Connect UniUni
- Go to Settings > Carriers.
- On the UniUni row, click Set Up. The Configure UniUni form opens.
- Under Client API Credentials, enter the Token ID and the Access Token.
- Fill in the Shipper Address block: Shipper Name, Shipper Phone, Address Line 1 and 2, Shipper City, Shipper State/Province, Shipper Postal Code, and Shipper Country Code. This is the address UniUni collects from.
- Under Which clients can ship with this carrier?, choose All clients, None for now, or pick individual clients.
- Click Save.
UniUni now shows as Configured on the Carriers page, and its services are available when you rate and generate a label.
Assign clients to the carrier
A client cannot ship on a carrier it is not assigned to. If you chose None for now during setup, open the UniUni card and use Manage to assign clients. If any client has no carrier assigned at all, a banner at the top of the Carriers page names it, because that client cannot ship.
Client overrides
Assigned clients use your company credentials by default. If a client has its own UniUni account and wants to ship on it, use Add Override on the UniUni card to store separate credentials for that client.
What can go wrong
- You cannot find where to make a key. It is under Integrations > REST API in the UniUni portal, on the Client API Credentials tab, not under account or profile settings.
- A client still cannot ship after you connect UniUni. Confirm the client is assigned to the carrier, not just that the carrier is connected at the account level.
- Calls stop authenticating. Check whether the key was rotated or deleted in the UniUni portal, since deleting one revokes it immediately. Enter the new Access Token and Token ID on the same form and save.
- You are not sure which key CanShip is using. That is what the Token ID is for. Match it against the API key card in the UniUni portal before you revoke anything.
