Outside (3PL) warehouses

What this is

A warehouse in CanShip can be run by another company: a third-party logistics provider (3PL) that uses its own system. CanShip shows such a warehouse with "(external)" after its name. CanShip does not hold the stock there, so you do not receive, adjust, move or pick in it from CanShip.

Where it appears

  • The Warehouses page marks it External.
  • The Warehouse filter on Inventory, Locations and Orders offers it, so you can see what it holds and which orders are with it.

Where it does not

The warehouse lists on Adjust Inventory (Add and Remove), Move Inventory (Single product, Multi-line, Whole bin and CSV relocate), New Receipt, Quick Receive and New Location show only your own warehouses.

Orders the 3PL holds

  • On the Orders list, such an order shows the outside warehouse and the status At 3PL. Filter by that warehouse to see them all.
  • The order's window says it was handed to that warehouse, gives the reference they hold it under, and is no longer editable in CanShip. To change the order, contact the warehouse.
  • Mark ready, Allocate inventory, Add to pick job and the other picking actions are greyed for it, each with the reason.
  • Re-assign, in the order's window, moves the order to one of your own warehouses. Its list shows whether each warehouse has the stock, and the window warns that the move does not tell the outside warehouse. If the goods are still with them, cancel the order with them too.
