What this is
A packing slip lists what is in one box. You can print it while packing, from the shipment or from the order.
Print while packing
- At the packing station, pack the box and click Ship on it.
- On the Weight step, click Packing slip.
The same button is on the Rate & Ship step.
Print from Shipments
- Go to Fulfillment > Shipments.
- Click the shipment's row. Shipment Details opens.
- Click Packing slip.
The slip opens in a new window with your browser's print dialog.
Print from the order
- Go to Orders and open the order.
- Scroll to Shipments.
- Click Packing slip beside the shipment.
What the slip shows
- The client's name
- The order number and the date printed
- The box number, when the order ships in more than one box
- The ship-to address
- The SKU, description and quantity of each item in the box
- The total units in the box
One slip covers one shipment. It lists only what is in that box, not the whole order.
When the order has more items than the box holds, the slip ends with a bold line: "This order ships in more than one box." A slip for a box that holds the whole order does not carry it.
Box numbers
- An order that ships in one box has no box number on its slip.
- While some of the order's items are not yet assigned to a box, the slip reads "Box 1" with no total. CanShip cannot yet say how many boxes there will be.
- Once every item is assigned to a box, the slips read "Box 1 of 2", "Box 2 of 2" and so on.
- A slip printed again later, from the order or the shipment, carries the same box number.
Check whether a slip was already requested
Hover over Packing slip, in Shipment Details or in the order's Shipments section. CanShip shows how many times the slip was requested, when it was last requested, and by whom. For example: "Packing slip requested 2 times, last on 10/5/2026, 8:11:22 PM by pat@example.com."
Shipment Details shows the same sentence under Contents. If nobody has requested a slip for the shipment, nothing shows.
The count goes up each time someone clicks Packing slip, from the packing station, Shipment Details or the order. It records the request. It cannot tell whether the page came out of the printer.
Good to know
- A voided shipment has no Packing slip button. Its request record stays.
- A shipment with no carrier label, such as a local pickup, has a packing slip too.
